About Us
As a part of the Global United Methodist Church, our mission is to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world. It is the intention of the membership of Desert Chapel UMC to move forward into ministry with an emphasis in six areas, or prongs, of ministry. These are:
- Every Member in Ministry
- Know the Neighbors
- Care for the Poor
- Improve the Facility
- Care for Children & Families
Goals & Objectives
Prong 1 – Every Member in Ministry:
- Increasing congregational participation in all areas of the Church
- Begin a Men’s Club
- Find out issues and speak at council (both church council and, where appropriate, city council)
- Being aware we are “God’s hands” and each person we help can multiply if they pass it on
Prong 2 – Know the Neighbors:
- Door to door survey inviting our neighbors to tell us what they think
- Cars and Cakes – primarily an outreach to the community, to build relationships
- Door to Door Prayer
Prong 3 – Care for the Poor:
- Benefit Assistance (assisting people to get the benefits to which they are entitled)
- Grief Counseling
- Blood Pressure Day
Prong 4 – Improve the Facility:
- Landscape maintenance and improvement
- Resurface parking lot
- Paint the building exteriors
- Playground upgrade
Prong 5– Build Community Relations:
- Find out what other churches are doing
- Build unity among the churches
- Lobby for public transportation
